| I pressed save and lost my attachment Hopefully the search engines find this an make it easier for you than it was for me. There are a lot of scoogie explanations out there. So, you opened a document from e-mail, started editing it only to forget that it was in e-mail and not saved to your system. You pressed save, closed the program and then scratched you head wondering where the hell your work had gone. Windows (Vista) saves these to a temp file C:\Users\%username%\appdata\local\temp you should be able to fish around here an find it. If you cannot find the appdata folder, you may have to change the view settings to show hidden files and folder. Google "show hidden files and folder" followed by your operating system version to get exact instructions. Alternately, you could re-open and attachment, the use the "Save As" function so that it will show you the path for the particular system you are working on. MP February 24 2010 | Netbooks aren't really netbooks any more The term netbook came from the fact that these machines, in the beginning, ran a skeleton OS and had such a small amount of storage and and memory that all you could really do is surf the net and do some basic word processing. "Netbooks" now come with hundreds of gigs of storage, tonnes of RAM and full Windows operating systems. The term ultralight laptop, as was used in the past seems more appropriate again. Anyway..... just a quick thought. MP - Aug 25 2009 - | | Cell Phone's and Data Plans are financially crippling the younger generation Phone plans in Canada are rediculously priced and because young people feel compelled to have these devices, these costs are taking away from their real ability to save money and earn equity. Someone who has an iPhone in Canada, and takes advantage of most of the "fun" features is looking at paying $100 or more per month. I find this insane. $100 each month is a large portion of a first mortgage. How many young people are out there now that have an iPhone, but don't drive because they can't afford a car? I can tell you it is a great deal and they don't realize the job opportunities they may be missing because of their inability to travel quickly. Wake up! The phone corporations are holding you back and to some degree controlling you because of your inability to go 5 minutes without a damn tweet. | Hosts file in Vista or Windows 7 not working. There are several technical solutions out there. If you find those don't work, like I did, then maybe you've missed a basic. Go to the View options and make sure that file extensions are not hidden. You may find the the hosts file is actually hosts.txt and that you need to save it without the txt extention. I can't beleive I spent 20 minutes on this. Sheesh. March 24 2010 | Lotus Notes 6.5 All Documents folder appears empty Use SHIFT F9 to rebuild the index and under "Seach this View" is the clear search button. March 24 2010 | Microsoft Office EULA keeps popping up or keeps appearing This happen in Vista and Windows 7. There's some complicated registry fixes out there, but all you have to do is go to the executable of the main program, right click and "Run as Administrator", accept the EULA and then close the program. All is well. March 25 2010 | Vista, Windows7, Windows 2008 Search not working on file contents First, as other sites mention, make sure the folders and subdirectories your files are in are included in the index. This is explained on many sites so I won't include here. In my case searching the contents of files only worked on one of 4 locations I had indexed. The SYSTEM object had permission to this folder. Once I added this persmission to the other folders, the index started growing and within 24 hours I was able to search file contents. YAY! March 30 2010 | MySQL performace slowing or showing a latency Arhgg this one took a like time to figure out. It turned out to be a PHP thing. It filled my c:\windows\temp folder with millions of sess_a;lsdkj;alkdjsakfjasdj files. I used the PHP ini file to redirect these sessions to a secondary hard drive. If I went into the directory through either command prompt or windows, the system would become unstable, freeze etc. using hte command del /s C:\windows\temp\* worked to clear the files, but it will probably take hours maybe days of running to clear it all out. In the meantime, until I find out how to stop these session files from being created I've created a batch file with the del command much the same as above that I can run on the new session folder I created. I'll update this once I find the proper fix within PHP.
